Winter can be brutal on your skin. Cold temperatures reduce blood flow to the extremities which reduces the nutrients that reach the surface of your skin. Combine this with the dry air from the heat, and the top layer of your skin is dry/ dehydrated, malnourished, and dying. It is important to have a nutrient-dense hydrating skincare routine in the winter.

Every season I add new products to my skincare routine. Your skin needs changes with each new season. So how does someone with really dry skin, live in a very cold climate without her face peeling off. Well truth be told when I get lazy with my skincare routine, my skin does get dry, ashy and flakey.

Here’s some products that I have added to my skincare routine so far now that the weather is getting colder.

Laneige Lip sleeping mask. I have been raving about this mask for years. The kids and I use it every night once the temperature starts dropping. Without it, we all get severely dry cracked lips that bleed even if we constantly apply lip balm. It makes a world of difference. It’s been almost 5 years and I have yet to find a better lip product to keep my lips from cracking.

In the evenings I love to use Ogee skincare. I have been looking more trying my best to stick to clean skincare. Their products are effective and safe and go on without making my skin feel smothered.

Hydraganics Botanical Brilliance Exfoliating Cleanser: The Hydraganics Botanical Brilliance Exfoliating cleanser uses a combination of spherical Jojoba Beads, Seeds, and Waxes to provide a triple-action exfoliation. This trio helps buff away impurities, remove dead skin cells, and promote visibly smooth and soft skin. This step is very important, dead skin cells can create a barrier and keep nutrients from reaching your live skin cells rendering your skincare routine useless. This cleanser is also made with Aloe Vera, Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E to hydrate your skin and replenish vital nutrients that are often washed away.

Hydraganics Glacial Clay Detox Mask: This mask is made with mineral-rich Glacial Clay which draws out impurities, toxins, and excess oils from the skin, helping to promote a clearer complexion. Clay masks are usually very drying for your skin as it strips away all the oils from the surface but this mask is also made with an infusion of aloe and rose a soothing blend that nourishes the skin without causing dryness.

Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic Acid is known for its ability to attract and retain water. Thus providing intense hydration. This Hyaluronic Acid Elixir is made with a blend of low and micro molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid, therefore it is designed to deeply penetrate the skin and increase moisture levels in your cells. This is my favorite hyaluronic acid.

Natural Retinol : This Natural Retinol Elixis is made with Bakuchiol, a natural alternative to traditional retinol. Bakuchiol is a naturally derived alternative which allows individuals with sensitive skin to use higher concentrations. It is known to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. leaving your with a smoother skin texture.

Indigo Dream Renewal Cream: made with Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides, this moisturizer provides deep and long lasting hydrating for your skin. You can use it to lock in hydration after your skincare routine or as a mask to give your struggling skin an extra boost. Additionally, it is made with Acmella Flower extract which is often used in skincare to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. And if that wasn’t enough to convince you this is an amazing moisturizer, it also has Blue Tansy which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. This can help calm and soothe irritated skin.

Other tips you can implement in your daily routine to protect your skin in the winter are:
-Aim heat vents in the car/ away from your face
-Wrap a scarf loosely around your face if your are out in the cold for long periods of time
-Take warm not hot showers
-Drink lots of water

Stay warm and keep your skin glowing this winter.
